OUR STORY Weather & People
Weather Report came to be in 2018 after a few years of chasing vintages across the hemispheres. These were special times. Picking grapes, making wine and getting hopelessly lost in conversation with bona fide wine folk - mostly in broken Spanglish - before the calling of home in the Cape of South Africa.
Our endeavour combines a passion for farming, flavour, science and art, and nature’s unabashed expression of the elements. Making wine in the Cape offers this as a visceral experience on a heavenly level. When the clouds clear and the sun gives you a wink just before it sinks below the mountains, you can only wonder what the sky will look like in the morning.
Vine-growing and winemaking don’t just happen. Thousands of years of culture have created this tapestry for everybody’s enjoyment. My uncle and namesake, Christopher Keet, let me in on this interesting subject as a youngster. His legacy from Cordoba on the Helderberg, where he produced iconic vintages of the Cabernet franc led Crescendo, set him in a distinguished league. He is sought after as a viticulturist, and his exceptional First Verse is now regarded as one of South Africa’s finest clarets.
People fuel our days, no matter the weather. There are many in this story, some of whom will be introduced as we explore the parcels that ground Weather Report.
